The Ripple

Double Walled Plastic Bowl

for Tervis

Tervis is a leading plastic drinkware development company, renowned for its specialization in double-walled insulated tumblers.

In line with its growth strategy, Tervis initiated the development of a new product line titled the “Backyard Collection.” This collection was designed to include a tumbler, pitcher, and caddy, offering consumers a complete set of products for outdoor entertaining.

Altitude team successfully led the design development of the “Backyard Collection.” Following the success, Tervis engaged the Altitude team once again to design the company’s first-ever bowl, expanding its product portfolio beyond drinkware.

Challenge: Aesthetically Driven Design That Embodies the Backyard Collection DNA While Honoring Functional Purpose

The project aimed to develop a cohesive set of bowls that reflected the established design language of the “Backyard Collection”. Originally developed by the Altitude team, the Backyard Collection tumbler and pitcher introduced key visual signatures—soft, welcoming curves and a distinctive ripple patterns carried across both interior and exterior surfaces.

Building on this foundation, the bowl design was carefully crafted to extend these visual and tactile elements while meeting the functional needs of a bowl.

“The Ripple” – Extending the Tervis Brand into Functional Tableware

“The Ripple” design features soft, welcoming curves that follow the Backyard Collection design language—presenting itself as friendly, approachable tableware and a seamless extension of the collection.

Inspired by the Backyard Collection’s design elements, “The Ripple” incorporates a ripple pattern that gradually fades from bottom to top. This subtle gradient maintains a cohesive visual connection with the existing collection while establishing its own unique character. It is also purpose-driven—offering a clear view of the contents and providing a non-slip grip when holding or carrying the bowl.

The calm ripple pattern on the top of the lid creates a consistently approachable look and feel that complements the faded ripple pattern on the bowl, while also providing stable and easy stacking of the bowls.

The thick rim at the top of the bowl allows for future expansion of the product line through interchangeable graphic inserts between the walls—aligning with Tervis’s tumbler business model and marketing strategy.

“The Ripple” embodies the Tervis DNA in both look and feel, combining trusted brand heritage with genuine functional purpose.
